I had always heard your entire
life flashes in front of your eyes
the second before you die.
First of all, that one second
isn't a second at all, it
stretches on forever, like an
ocean of time...
For me, it was lying on my back at
Boy Scout camp, watching falling
stars...
And yellow leaves, from the maple
trees, that lined my street...
Or my grandmother's hands, and the
way her skin seemed like paper...
And the first time I saw my cousin
Tony's brand new Firebird...
And Janie...
And Janie...
(with love)
And... Carolyn.
EXT. PARKING LOT - DAY
On VIDEO: We're watching the video Ricky showed Jane
earlier, of the empty white PLASTIC BAG being blown about.
The wind carries it in a circle around us, sometimes
whipping it about violently, or, without warning, sending
it soaring skyward, then letting it float gracefully down
to the ground...
LESTER
I guess I could be pretty pissed
off about what happened to me...
but it's hard to stay mad, when
there's so much beauty in the
world. Sometimes I feel like I'm
seeing it all at once, and it's
too much, my heart fills up like a
balloon that's about to burst...
...and then I remember to relax,
and stop trying to hold on to it,
and then it flows through me like
rain and I can't feel anything but
gratitude for every single moment
of my stupid little life...
(amused)
You have no idea what I'm talking
about, I'm sure. But don't
worry...
You will someday.
SŁOWNICTWO
at once – naraz, równocześnie (Don’t talk to me all at once- said mother to her four children); natychmiast (Go to Mary at once, she is waiting for you)
be about to do sth – mieć właśnie coś zrobić
(warto się nauczyć i stosować- wyrażenie łatwe, bardzo przydatne i robi dobre wrażenie na nauczycielach)
I was about to call you, when the earthquake began.
brand new – nowiuteńki
(to często spotykane wyrażenie, o “a brand new day” śpiewa Sting)
flash – błyskać; też przemknąć
float – pływać, unosić się (w powietrzu)
a float – tratwa
flow – płynąć, spływać
graceful – pełen wdzięku
grace oprócz wdzięku oznacza też łaskę
(The grace of God; She is in the good/ bad graces of the king. )
gratitude – wdzięczność,
UWAGA: nie mylić grateful (wdzięczny) z graceful (patrz wyżej)
hold on to sth – trzymać się czegoś, nie puszczać
You have no idea what I'm talking about – zwrot przydatny w formie „I have no idea what you’re talking about” – nie mam pojęcia o czym mówisz (udawać głupiego można w każdym języku...)
line – stać szeregiem
maple – klon
pissed off – zdenerwowany, wkurzony (jeśli interesuje Cię podobne słownictwo, odsyłamy do działu KULTURA, artykuł „When drinking and getting drunk”)
scout camp – obóz harcerski
seem – wydawać się
it seems – 1) jak się zdaje; 2) okazuje się
you seem (to be) busy – robisz wrażenie zajętego
skywards – ku niebu – jest jednym z wyrazów złożonych, które lubimy, bo ułatwiają naukę języka; analogicznie homewards – ku domowi
soar – wznosić się (w powietrze);
o cenach – iść w górę;
o człowieku – osiągnąć wyżyny
stretch – rozciągać się (skojarz z tkaniną :) )
violent – gwałtowny, violence – przemoc
whip – smagać;
whip to też bicz oraz chłostać, bić;
dla lubiących gotować: ubijać (np. śmietanę, jaja)
GRAMATYKA
Powyższy fragment scenariusza dobrze obrazuje zastosowanie czasów simple i continuous, dlatego proponujemy prześledzenie wybranych zdań ze zwróceniem uwagi na ten aspekt. Przykłady są łatwiej strawne od teorii.

Jeszcze jeden phrasal verb:
